“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations…” These being some of the concluding words of Jesus’ mission here on earth (His will, so to say), indicates that this was His purpose for coming on earth. Jesus does not just want you to be born again to escape hell, but He wants you to live a life of significance here on earth; to be like Him, learn from Him, and bring others to Him. The real intended action/doing word in this scripture is not necessarily ‘Go’ but ‘disciple’ or ‘make disciples’. This is because, as for going, we are always going: to our communities, to our schools, to our work places, to our families, yes, we are always going. So, to respond to the call of the Great Commission is not just to go, but rather to ‘make disciples’ as we go… I gave my life to the Lord (got Born again) in 1979 and at that time, there was evidently a great Holy Spirit revival in Uganda. What first captivated me about my newfound faith, was the power of God that I saw in the Church: the sick being healed, demoniacs being set free, complex physical circumstances finding Spiritual solutions, and many other demonstrations. These experiences that I encountered would mark my life forever. At that time, Uganda was at war, and many families needed to shift from the city to the village. My family too needed to move but there was no way of getting gas into the car. So, I told my Pastor, Professor Simeon Kayiwa, and he asked us to get a gallon of water, he prayed over the water and told us to pour it into the car tank. And this we did, started the car and off we drove, over 100km, on the water turned into gasoline miraculously. Hallelujah!... Sometime after we had returned, one of my aunts borrowed my car and they had a wreck on their way to Fort Portal. I followed up to check on the state of the car and prepare for its return to Kampala. But while there, my mission would be morphed into His mission… When I finally settled in the place where God had called me to serve – Fort Portal, still in the midst of the war. There was hardly kerosene for people to light their lanterns and drugs to heal their ailments. So, I asked people to bring water, I prayed over it, and it was put into lanterns; it burned and the people had light. I also prayed for water, and those who were sick applied it, and they were healed. We saw flames of fire come down from heaven more than three times… As a result of the miracles accompanying the word, many people came to the Lord, were transformed and sent to various places in the South Western Region of Uganda and beyond. God used them mightily, and many churches were planted, now over 1,600, bringing great transformation to many people and entire communities. With practical stories and tested principles, Dr. KL Dickson in this book “YOUR GREATEST NEED - Knowing Christ in Depth.” clearly shows that what will transform nations is not just good governance, intellectual leadership, or sophisticated armies but making disciples for Jesus Christ.
